I couldn't wait until spring. We started work on updating Baloo this past weekend (2005 Rockhopper). I tried a few handlebars and am going with a bianchi 1.5" carbon fiber riser bar. The brakes were switched so the front brake is on the right hand, and my new ergon wsd hand grips are ready and waiting! We'll finish this up this weekend because I ran out of cable for the rear shifter and brake.
Next will be the new seatpost. Haven't decided on which suspension one to get - any ideas?
Renee, I'll be down in Madison the weekend of October 7th. If you'll be around pm me.
I'm getting so excited!!

Let us know how you like those grips. I'm tired of numb hands!

Sorry Dar,
I'll be in Sheboygan for the season finale WORS XC race. Good luck finding your upgrades. I'm not up on seatpost suspension, but make sure you find one that you can adjust or limit the rebound/compression. You want to be comfortable, but you don't want to lose pedaling efficiency because you are needlessly bobbing up and down.
Might want to start your research here...

Okay Dar I just put Ergon grips on my bike but no chance yet for a test drive except for a spin in the cul de sac. I had to move my shifters and brake levers in about 1/2 inch. We can compare notes on how we like them.

I have a thudbuster (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Suspension_Seatpost/product_23209.shtml) on my hardtail Niner, and I totally love it.
I have it set up with the firmest Elastomers because I don't like too much squish, but it totally saves my back and butt.
