View Full Version : i know nothing
Hey ladies- Thank you both for the information and the links! I printed it off and I will use it when I purchase a bike. I also visited the links. You guys rock. :) I feel quite a bit better informed about purchasing a bike than I did to start with, and I will look into getting a book on cycling.
thanks!

Linz,
Oh good, I'm glad I didn't scare you off!
Here's something else you might try:
Wrench Science Fitting Site (https://www.wrenchscience.com/WS1/Secure/Fitting/Height.asp?aes=r&dept=cmp&anms=false)
If you input the measurements they ask for, it should give you the frame geometry that should be a good fit for you. (Most bike manufacturers post their frame geometries.)
Of course, this kind of thing is no substitute for trying out the bike on the road. But it could be a fun diversion.
If you lived closer to me, I'd see if you would like my old Bianchi. I just got a new bike, so I'm looking for a good home for my Bianchi. Unfortunately, it's hard to determine if the bike would fit you without you trying it out.

Hooray for 18-year-old cyclists in Michigan!! (I'm not some creep-- I'm also 18 and a cyclist, in Ann Arbor). Since you're in Michigan, I'd suggest checking some of the local clubs' mailing lists (there are a surprising number) to see if anyone is selling a used bike. That's how I found mine at a fairly reasonable price and excellent fit... plus, the girl was willing to give me a bunch of her jerseys as part of the deal. If you do buy a used bike, take it in to your LBS BEFORE you buy (with the seller :p)... they can make sure that it fits and is in good working condition. I made the mistake of waiting until the day after i bought my bike... luckily the girl i bought from was honest and the guy that helped check "fit" knew more or less what he was doing :) a few minor adjustments later and, voila!
As for local clubs in the western 1/2 of the LP... definitely check out some of the Universities. I know WMU fields a team/club (there's a race there in a few weeks!) and college students that are in to bikes are often willing to help out fellow students :)
your best bet, of course, is the LBS. They might even have a club of their own!
good luck, have fun, and drop me a line if you're ever in A2!
