View Full Version : Amici Veloci - Where Are You?

I've done a bad, bad thing. I thought it would be cool to have a Frappr map for Amici Veloci, and created an "experimental" map. Of course, I can't now delete it (I really hate that site), so http://www.frappr.com/amiciveloci is now the official Amici Veloci map (the Great Decider says it's so).

If you have an AV jersey, know the "sekret handshake", and can hum the theme song, please add yourself to the map. And maybe post a picture of yourself in your AV kit.

Ooh, you are so cool. I'm going to have to figure out how to add the link to our blog also. You going to gather in the folks on bikejournal?

FullyLugged has his MS ride this weekend and will be sporting the colors. Not sure that he has been indoctrinated into the club's refeened ways yet.

This will be good because we keep getting asked where the club is "from."

Thanks, Great Decider.

I did it! I even have a s/s jersey coming in the mail to complement the sleeveless one I ordered. Weather started to turn cooler just when I wanted to wear my jersey. Someone had ordered a s/s jersey for her friend, whom it didn't fit, and she agreed to sell it to me! YAY! It should be here early next week. I'll see if I can't get a picture taken.

Hmmm. I know the greeting and the reply, but somehow, I missed the theme song. What is it?

I think it is in post #25. I've been rather distracted lately and haven't kept up on the latest club news.

Has anyone else noticed that all of our suave and sophisticated ways have their origins with Jo?:p

I haven't been able to get that damn song out of my head since posting.

We could also try the Jungle Book song, courtesy of BikerZ, that I also now can't get out of my head: "I wanna be like you-ou-ou, walk like you, talk like you, you'll see it's true, an ape like me, can learn to be, human too..." :) OK, maybe not.

I MUCH prefer "ding dong the Witch is dead, which old witch, the wicked witch" to "we are the world, we are the children" (gotta stop now, getting nauseous).

We are the world, we are the children... Oops, sorry, Michael Jackson moment there.:p

Ah yes. Makes so much more sense. Not to say I haven't sung the Wicked Witch song plenty of times while on my bike.

Just for MP, Oompa Loompa, Doopity do . . . .

Does MP hate or love that song? I personally hate it with a extraordinary passion. My youger sibs discovered this and tormented me with it for months after the original movie came out. I have to go lie down in a dark, quiet room for a little while now....

I dislike to Oompa Loompa song, as well. The Oompa Loompas always creeped me out, so I associated them with the equally creepy song. :D

We could make our own. Trek420 is partial to the lumberjack song, so how about:
I'm a bikergal and I'm ok, I sleep all night and I bike all day.
I spin up hills, I clip and fall, I stop at the portapotteeeee.
On Sundays I wear a number, and ride a centureee.

Okay! So far, the map (http://www.frappr.com/amiciveloci) shows 19 Amici Veloci, with 4 countries and 8 US states represented. C'mon, where are the rest of the Amici Veloci, I know there are more than 19. :p Remember, we can use this map to find Amici Veloci to bum dinners off of when we're traveling!

Now that Mimitabby and I wore the colors yesterday on the Seattle TE ride (see pics on yesterday's ride thread and Seattle ride thread), do we qualify to be on the AV map, or do we have to do a charity ride in them first? We did learn some aka_kim vocab ("Meet you by the elephants.").

Either way, consider yourselves eligible for dinner-bumming (why does that sound scary?) in Seattle if you're passing through.

But of course !

(speaking for the wise and benevolent Supreme Decision Maker who is probably out celebrating her b-day or recovering from volunteering duties at the Knoxville double century)

I'm still waiting for that cute pic of Mimitabby and RaleighDon to show up on the map! The only requirements for "membership" in this very exclusive club are ... owning AV gear, and wearing it. Knowing the greeting and theme song is optional, and knowing the aka_kim-isms just makes you weird :). I love the photos everyone has posted so far - it's so cool to see the colors on everyone!

We're now at 23 markers, and 5 countries and 10 states!

I think a road trip from SF to Seattle to Vernon may be in order.

I did manage to score a jersey, but it hasn't had an outing yet. I've only got a get-about type bike here. It sucks. It doesn't deserve to be seen with my AV jersey. You'll just have to wait until I get back to the UK for my contribution to the map. :p

I've added myself to the map - although my name and location will change in about a month (yippee!). Still working on a photo...

oompa loompa's are freaky!

Rumor has it there will be an AV siting this weekend in Merrill.....if Lise will get up here with her digital camera there will be proof! I'll see what I can do to get a picture. So how bad do you think I will hurt after not biking for a couple months then doing a 30 mile ride?!!

I find the frappr site horribly confusing and unintuitive too. I think you'll need to login, bring up the Amici Veloci tab, and then edit your entry. By default when you login it opens your profile page, and it doesn't use your profile pics for your marker pic. Clear as mud, eh?

Frapper is definitely a little too friendly. I don't think we can turn off e-mails, but put as little info as possible in your profile (or as much as you want ;)). If you added any "interests", frapper automatically adds you to maps that match your interests(!). You can turn this off through a setting on the My Interests page when editing your profile.
