Ive been lurkin for about a week or so now. I just turned 41 in July and over the last year Ive lost 82 pounds. Been doing a lot of walking and slow running for awhile now and needed a change. So I got my 1st bike in 15 years about a week ago. Started out with a used fugi cambridge comfort bike and soon found out that with the kind of riding I want to do the comfort bike wasnt going to work out. There was NO comfort at all! LOL! So traded it in for another used bike a 05 Giant Rainier. What a big difference. I cant even begin to tell you how much fun Ive been having with my husband and teenage boys. We live in the woods and we have so many trails to explore. Been shakin up the body with all the rocks, roots, and tree stumps. Crossed a pretty deep river last night. Well I will have tons of questions im sure as I go. I love reading all your posts. Some day I hope to get where you all are.

Wow - good for you on the progress you have made so far!!

Where are you in Maine? I went to college there and my mom lives in Topsham.

I live in Alfred, southern Maine. Its so beautiful around here right now. Just got back from my walk. Took a brake from my bike this afternoon to walk and my son just got home and wants me to go out on the trail with him. I HATE HILLS! Everywhere you go around here is up and down a hill. Im thinking of putting the bike in the van and heading down towards the beach where its a bit flatter.

Hi!

Welcome to TE :) !

Congratulations on your weight loss - that's awesome!! I've been cycling for just over 3 months now and I love it.

When I first started, I really didn't care for hills either. But, as you get stronger (cardio & physically), you will definitely see improvements in getting up those hills :D . Start slowly and make sure you downshift just before you head up that hill.

There are so many wonderful women here who have been riding a long while. You will learn a lot!

Have a great evening!

Denise
