I posted a while back about problems with my first pair of bike shoes and clipless pedals. I was having all kinds o' problems- my knee was torquing, the bottom of one of my feet was killing me....
Anyway, I went to one of my LBS that has a reputation for doing great bike fits. I was kinda nervous that they'd give me attitude because I ride a hybrid and I'm a big woman, thought they might not take me seriously. But they were so great! The manager adjusted my fit for about an hour, moving the cleat, checking my knees, raising my seat. He told me to check in with him in a week. So I went out a coupla days later and did about 15 miles, and after 5 miles I got painful hot spots in both feet...a new and different kind of pain. So I went back to LBS, and the colleague of fitter #1 took a look at me, because the manager wanted a fresh pair of eyes on my problem. Everything was adjusted again, it took about an hour.
And yesterday I rode 15 miles, totally pain free. It was a beautiful thing. I was really thinking I couldn't use spds at all, and that was the problem, but I just needed really minutes adjustments.
The upshot is, if your feet are hurting, don't try to live with it- find someone who knows what they're doing and get an adjustment.
Happily,
Amy
