So unfair
I went riding downtown today and stopped at a store that sells outdoor/sports/travel clothes. They have Icebreaker clothes on sale for 30% off. Two whole racks of clothes are 70% off. Lots of outerwear, breathable rain jackets, etc. Fast drying pants. They are relocating and are trying to sell a lot of their inventory before they do so. BUT I am sadly poor. Both my accounts are overdrawn lol. I get a cheque in a week or so and maybe they'll have something in my size at that time. Maybe they will have boxing day or white-out sales after Christmas

This is pretty much a constant state of affairs for me except for the overdrawn part. I somehow manage to stay teetering on the brink.

lol well they are just overdrawn the monthly fees so $6 or something easy to clear up. That's why I like being a student again. It's 'ok' to be broke if you are a student lmao. Just kidding. I enjoy thrifty life but I sure did want to buy a couple things today!

I just try to do the best I can with what I have. My house renovation took me for a ride, so I'm back to the starting point again. But I have these custom bamboo cabinets...
THAT was a lesson. I haven't been a student in 10 years, so I have no excuse except my own doing. But that's okay, I don't need any of that stuff anyways. Stay out of the stores and you don't know what you're missing. |

It can be very satisfying to find hidden treasures amongst the thrift stores and Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc. I've snagged some fabulous merino and angora type sweaters for like $5 that way.

The skirt and sweater I wore yesterday both came from Goodwill.
When I bought that sweater it still had the price tag on it.

Those are great deals
I keep intending to go to the thrift stores but am a bit overwhelmed right now. I need to find out when the next sale is at Salvation Army. They have days where everything in the store is half off Bike stuff too!! ![]() |

I am at this moment wearing a skirt I bought at a consignment store for $4. I actually can't remember the last time I bought something not on sale or at a consignment store. Wait, I take that back. I bought some bike shorts from TE. They weren't on sale, I don't think. Hmmmm.

Boy, you all are so much better at thrift store shopping than I am. Every time I read of all your great finds, I head in to one. All I ever see are racks and racks of acrylic.
I have a theory. We have several more expensive "vintage" stores in town. I bet they get to all the good stuff first. There's probably a system to it, like you have to go in at 6 am on Wednesday. |

We have a store here that's run by the hospital Auxiliary. Some pretty high quality stuff can be found there and usually for less than at Goodwill.
Maybe your town has something similar and you just don't know about it.

I found a beautiful wool coat at the Junior League Thrift Shop for $15 - best $15 I ever spent. Find the Thrift (charity) shop where the rich ladies donate their clothes. Some of the donations are scary, have probably been there for years, but others are very nice.
![]() The one thing about thrift shops is that if you want something specific, say a white blouse, you probably won't find it. But if you go in with an open mind (and wallet), it's amazing the treasures you can find. And somedays, I walk out empty handed.

Thrift stores are awesome. If you go to one that's on the swankier end of town you probably have more luck.
